
Jan Hajič
Professor at Charles University in Prague
Jan Hajič is a professor of computational linguistics and a leading figure in Czech natural language processing. He works at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics (ÚFAL) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, which he previously headed. His research focuses on machine translation, deep language understanding, and the development of large-scale language resources with rich linguistic annotation, and he is the author of more than two hundred scholarly publications. He coordinates LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ, the national research infrastructure for language data, and the European HPLT project, which prepares data for training large language models. In doing so, he connects fundamental linguistic research with the technologies that today underpin modern artificial intelligence.
